A Clockwork Birthday

One of the stamp sets I love to play around with is "Clockworks". It's not really my usual style, but I love the collage effects you can produce with it. Here's the birthday card I made for my Dad's birthday this year:

It's all on one layer, which is really handy when postage is an issue, but I think it's SO effective. The colour scheme is straight from our fabulous "Color Coach" (sic - sorry, I'm not good with these American spellings!)

I hope the sun is shining where you are - it is GORGEOUS here - and that you have a really lovely weekend, whatever you're doing. Back soon!

I wanted to show you this card, that I made at last weekend's training day, organised by my two fab Stampin' Up! uplines. I love this technique!

Really moody, huh? Love it! The stamp set is from the Spring / Summer Seasonal Catalogue; it's called "Rain or Shine". The background stamp is "En Francais"

Want to see how you create this wonderful colourwash look? Book a Stampin' Up! party with me - it's my current demonstration! And until the 30th May, you can even earn an extra £25 worth of free products too, so there is NO reason to wait.  Find out more here.

Twitterpated Refurbished Lampshade

You know those projects that you keep meaning to get on with, but which for some reason don't get done for ages? Well, this was one of those...

A good few years ago, I had a lovely lamp that sat in my conservatory, with a beautiful cream fabric shade - gorgeous, it was. Well, four house-moves later, the shade was no longer a lovely cream colour. This is what it looked like:

Dog-eared wasn't the word. But, try as I might, I couldn't find another shade to fit the lamp (I love Ikea, but they don't exactly do standard fittings!) so it has been sitting in our living room for the past year or so. Every time I looked at it, I thought, "I really must do something about that", then went off and did something about something else. You know the way it works. Anyway, a couple of evenings ago, I was full of energy for some reason and decided that NOW WAS THE TIME. A quick shuffle through my acres of pretty paper, a couple of happy hours "playing" and here is the end result, back in pride of place in the living room:

Wow - what an improvement! I keep toddling downstairs and peeping round the door to have a look at it.

Here's the back of it, so you can see the ribbon I covered the join in the paper with.

And here is a close-up of the detail. This Cherry Cobbler Scallop Dots ribbon is soooo pretty!

I even added seam binding around the top and the bottom, to seal the edges of the paper.

I get so excited by the fact that you can do things like this with PAPER. This is our Twitterpated Designer Series Paper, and I think it looks fab! If you're keen to try this yourself, I used our Multipurpose Adhesive sheets to glue the DSP on - but put the glue on the paper, not the lampshade (at least, not if yours is fabric with a really fragile plastic liner, like mine). You need to be able to press to release the adhesive from its backing paper after you've adhered it to the first surface, and although I managed it, it would have been MUCH easier if I'd just put it on the DSP instead. Ah well, you live and learn..

I hope you liked this project. I'll be back to share more soon. Thanks for dropping in!

Parker's Patterns Congrats!

Today's card is similar to the one I showed you yesterday, but has a totally different "feel" to it. I made this one for one of the newest members of my team, to let her know how thrilled I am that she has decided to sign up.

I think this paper is really cheery and suits the congratulations theme down to the ground. Again, the sentiment is from "Sassy Salutations" and there is that rogue retired ribbon again - doh!

I send a congratulations and welcome card to every new member of my team, whether they're in my immediate downline, or further down in the group as Sarah (the recipient of this card) is. Everyone in Team Sunshine is really important to me, and I want to make everyone feel as welcome as I can - whether they've signed up to build their own Stampin' Up! business, or whether they've joined just to get the discount on their own purchases. If you think that you might like to join my team too, click here to find out more, or email me for a chat so I can help you decide whether this might be the right move for you.

Tomorrow, I'll show you the home decor project I was working on a few days back. I hope you like it as much as I do..

Parker's Patterns Birthday Card

Now I've cut into that pack of "Parker's Patterns" Designer Series Paper, I'm having an absolute ball making things with it! Yesterday was the birthday of one of my absolute best customers - Chris  came to my very first event almost three years ago and has been coming to my classes ever since - and here is the card I sent her. It went first class, so I should be safe to put it on here as it should be sitting on her mantelpiece by now.

This was the design I based my swaps on, that I showed you yesterday. This time, though, I used one of the subtler patterns in the pack, and the whole thing is bigger - this is a standard A6 sized card. I didn't realise until after I'd stuck it down that the ribbon I used is a retired one (somehow it missed being moved into the "retired ribbon" drawer and was still in my "current ribbon" rack. So don't look at it too closely, 'cause you can't get hold of it any more, I'm afraid.

I don't know if it comes out in the photo particularly well, but I embossed a frame around the outside edge of the card, using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool. Nothing fancy, just a double line all the way around, crossing at the corners. I love this simple way of adding detail to a card.

I've got another one to show you, so do pop back tomorrow... Thanks for dropping in!

Parker's Patterns Swaps

How organised am I?! Tomorrow is our quarterly training day up in Peterborough, and I actually finished my swaps for it yesterday. A whole clear day in between! That's almost unheard of! The thing is, though, I decided ages ago what I would do; the theme this time was "men" and so I wanted to come up with a design that was masculine enough to satisfy the brief, but that I could still enjoy using afterwards if I have any swaps left over. Here they all are, waiting for me to pack them:

Isn't that paper lovely? It's from the Spring / Summer catalogue, and is called "Parker's Patterns". I loved it from the moment I saw it but am ashamed to say that I hadn't managed to cut into it until a few days ago. Making that first cut into pretty paper is still hard for me...(!)

So you can see them a bit more clearly, here are a few of my swaps laid out in a bit more of an organised fashion.

The sentiments are from "Sassy Salutations" - love that font! I cut out the wording using one of the Apothecary Accents framelits, and added mini silver brads and a snippet of either Early Espresso Stitched Grosgrain, or Crumb Cake Taffeta ribbon. I'm really pleased with how they came out.

Don't forget, if you love the ribbons I've used, that I offer a "Ribbon by the Metre" service. Click here for more information.

Last night, I was working on a home decor project I've been wanting to get round to for AGES. I finished it, and can't wait to show you. Watch this space...

April Class Projects - Oh, Hello!

This month's class was all about the fabulously versatile "Oh, Hello" stamp set. Here are the projects we made:

I love them! And, I'm pleased to say, they went down really well with the ladies who took part in the classes as well - everyone had a brilliant time creating and chatting and laughing together.

Here is a closer look at each one:

This gatefold card is really pretty, and showcases the gorgeous "Tea for Two" Designer Series Paper really well. And I still can't get enough of that Flower Trim!

This fab little treat box is held closed with one of the Cute Clips (this one is from the "Hang Ups" pack), so you don't need to spoil it when you open it to get the contents out. A great little thank you gift.

And our little Rosie, taking pride of place on an 8" x 8" scrapbook page. I think she looks adorable peeking out of her box, after we brought her back from the vet one day.

All the projects made in this class use the "Oh, Hello" stamp set, "Tea for Two" Designer Series Papers and inks and cardstocks to co-ordinate with the DSP. When I planned the class, several of these colours were due to retire at the end of June, but I'm delighted that most of those have now been given a reprieve in the Colour Refresh. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you need to have a look at yesterday's post.

Thanks for looking - I'll see you again soon...

A (Colour) Refreshing Change

I promised you some really exciting news from Stampin' Up! and (a little later than I'd planned) here it is: we have a really exciting makeover coming soon!

Three years ago, Stampin' Up! carried out a major renovation of its colour collections, retiring old colours that were no longer as fresh and exciting as they could be, and introducing lots of new ones. At the time, they promised a smaller colour refresh every three to five years and - I can't believe it's come round already! - the first of those colour refreshes has just been announced.

When our new Annual Catalogue comes out in July, you will see ten colours in our colour collections, that weren't there before. Not all of them are brand new; most of them are former (or in some cases, current) In Colours that are making a glorious return as part of our core colour range. I am so excited about this, because it means that some of my very favourite colours are going to be making a comeback!

One thing you can be sure of - this Colour Refresh means that Stampin' Up! will be able to continue to offer you the very best, on-trend colours and accessories that will really make your crafting stand out from the rest. I'm so excited about this change, and I know you will be too.

You can see the changes in this table:

I'll post some thumbnails of the new colours as soon as these are available, but in the meantime, please note this:

As of now, all of the products available in retiring colours are available only while stocks last, so if one or more of your favourites is disappearing, make sure you don't miss out on the opportunity to re-stock before they're gone!

The Petite Curly Label Punch Is Back!

I love good news! One of the most popular of the free gifts available in this year's Sale-A-Bration was the fabulous little Petite Curly Label punch. I love how it co-ordinates with many of our stamp sets, and you can create lovely embellishments with it too - have you TRIED to cut out a shape like this freehand???

Stampin' Up! have just announced that this versatile little punch is now available for you to buy, and you can add it to your collection for just £11.50.

Now there's something to brighten up your day...

I have big news for you about Stampin' Up!'s colour collections too, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow for that... See you then!

Fabulous Punch Storage

April already! I hope you had a lovely Easter. We spent a lovely quiet weekend here, with Alan actually off work - makes a nice change to be able to spend a Bank Holiday together.

A couple of weeks ago, I treated myself to this, which now sits in pride of place at the back of my desk:

I can't tell you how useful I'm finding it. I've reclaimed a whole shelf for other purposes now, and my well-loved collection of punches each (well, most of them) have their own little slot. Perfect!

The unit was made by a talented chap named Phil, who is, I understand, the husband of a fellow Demonstrator up in Scotland. I won't put his full name, or his email address, on here, as I don't want to open him up to spamming, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind me passing on hs details if you're interested in having one of these brilliant units too. I would thoroughly recommend it.

My craft desk is getting to be so well organised now, what with my Colour Caddy and now this - lovely! What's the best bit of crafty storage you've ever bought?
